Stillhouse Lake by Rachel Caine
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Psychological suspense plus fast-paced action make this a quick and compulsive read. Gina Royal thinks she has a happy marriage and a normal life until she comes home from picking the kids up at school to find her home surrounded by police cars and curious neighbors. Her husband is serial killer and she honestly had no idea. Most of Stillhouse Lake takes place four years later. Gina and her children have been on the run, continuously moving and changing names as they flee from murder victim’s relatives and other crazy haters. At Stillhouse Lake she resolves they will run no more, and nearly loses her life and her children. Warning: this book has a reasonably good ending, but it is book one of a trilogy. I will be starting book two today. Both are on Kindle Unlimited.

I write, study history, and work the reference desk at the public library. My home in the Missouri woods is shared with Richard, my husband of 50+ years, Cookie, a little white terrier, and Sunshine, a big yellow cat. After seven non-fiction books, I finally turned to the writing I always wanted to do: mystery novels. TANGLED ROOTS, a tale of secrets, lies, and murder along the Missouri River, was published January, 2017. My next novel, THE SANITY OF STRAWBERRIES, a murder set inside a state mental hospital, will be published in 2018.
